We Are All UWaterloo2

As you may have seen on this blog, or read about in the news (The RecordKitchener Post, CTV News) last week there was a rally at the University of Waterloo, We Are All UWaterloo, organized by English department members, featuring participants and speakers from throughout the university community. Students, faculty, and staff, stunned and deeply saddened by the murder of Muslim worshipers at the Grande Mosquée de Québec and appalled by events unfolding now in the United States, gathered to remember those lost, and imagine a way forward. Photos can be viewed on the Facebook page; a student also created this fantastic video:

The week, Friday 12-1pm, we are hosting We All All UWaterloo2 in the Porter Library Lobby:

Please join us for a Read-In of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction by African Canadian, African American, and Muslim writers – including UWaterloo students! In conjunction with National Days of Action against Racism, White Supremacy, and Islamophobia, and in honour of Black History Month, this event will feature readings, performances, write your own poetry activities, and time for solidarity. The University Writing Centre will host a letter-writing station, with contact information for MPs, MPPs, and the PMO, so that people can write letters to express their opinions about current immigration and foreign policy.Join us because #WeAreAllUWaterloo

Please share widely.
