Alumnus discusses Tudor Afterlives of Erotic Legality

Memmo_Di_Filippuccio_Erotic_scenesThe next meeting of the Waterloo Renaissance Workshop will be held on Thursday, February 12, from 4-5 p.m. in Hagey Hall 232. Danila Sokolov will speak on “Tudor Afterlives of Erotic Legality,” with discussion to follow.

Danila Sokolov is a 2012 Ph.D. graduate of the University of Waterloo’s English Department, where he held a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarhship. He is a SSHRC Canada Banting Postdoctoral Fellow in English at Brock University and a former Izaak Killam Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Alberta. He is completing a book manuscript that investigates vernacular medieval genealogies of selfhood in the poetry of English Petrarchism from Wyatt to Wroth. His work has appeared in The Sidney Journal, The Journal of Medieval and Early Modern Studies, Modern Philology, SEL: Studies in English Literature, 1500-1900, and the Ashgate Research Companion to the Sidneys, 1500-1700. His talk is part of a new project that considers the afterlives of medieval erotic legality in early modern love poetry from Wyatt to Donne.
