Music? Poetry? The English Department? An Award? Yes to all of these.
The prize is $500 and a guaranteed public performance of an original musical setting of a suite of sonnets from the forthcoming collection Trio by UWaterloo English Professor Sarah Tolmie. The competition will occur in two phases: applicants initially submit a setting of a single poem, for piano and voice, and then the winner is commissioned to complete a series of settings of 7-10 poems for a premiere in the fall of 2015.
