This year’s Kitchener-Waterloo Word on the Street is Saturday, September 2oth, and features two Waterloo alumni, and one St. Jerome’s lecturer. Alumnus Evan Munday, author of the Dead Kid Detective Agency series, will be reading. Carrie Snyder, Waterloo alumna and now instructor, who has been short-listed for the Governor General’s Literary Award, will also appear. Claire Tacon, a lecturer at St. Jerome’s, will also be featured; she is the author of the novel, In the Field (Biblioasis), which received the 2010-2011 Metcalf-Rooke Award.
Other authors include Ian Weir, Russell Wangersky, and Tasneem Jamal, local author of Where the Air is Sweet (HarperCollins). Set in part in Kitchener-Waterloo, Where the Air is Sweet has received very favorable reviews. As the Globe and Mail observes, “The immediacy in Jamal’s prose will allow readers to absorb her characters’ anxieties as their lives fall to pieces that cannot easily be put back together. This story is at turns engrossing, shocking, beautiful, yet revolting in its dark reality.”
