Shelly Sanders’ first novel—Rachel’s Secret—was published in April, 2012 by Second Story Press. Inspired by her grandmother’s escape from a Russian pogrom, the book has received critical praise including a starred review in Booklist, and it was iTunes Book of the Week May 4 to 12. Rachel’s Secret is in its third printing and the sequel will be published in the fall.
Shelly has worked as a freelance writer for almost 20 years, with articles in Canadian Living, Maclean’s, Reader’s Digest, the Toronto Star, and Homemaker’s. Topics she’s covered include mental and physical disorders, environmentally-friendly design, and real estate trends. A University of Waterloo graduate with an Honours degree in English, and a Ryerson graduate with a degree in journalism, Shelly is now concentrating on fiction, and has recently completed a certificate in creative writing through the University of Toronto.
